Yesterday my friend wanted my opinion about comedy and rape. Oh fun, tell me more! He was at the Improv when Dane Cook, the comedian currently making headlines for not picking up his ratdog's droppings , made a joke about rape that caused quite a stir from the audience. In my opinion, do I think rape and comedy is off limits?
Here's the joke as I heard it from my friend:
"In the history of the world, do you ever think that there's been love at first sight with rape? The two lock eyes, and she says, 'go ahead'"
My friend was wondering why every other race, creed, stereotype is game but why not rape? I said "because rape is never funny" A woman in the audience shouted "You suck" and apparently Dane egged her on. C'mon now, he didn't think that his rape joke was actually funny - he was looking for a little controversy.
I think it's fantastic that Mr. poop droppings markets himself to teens and college students (Teen Choice Awards, Bring Dane Cook To Your Campus) Awesome! That's just what any colleges needs. Some dumb ass telling rape jokes and frat boys who drink beer for a living thinking it's cool because some comedian said it was. And thereby contributing to mainstream media perpetuating the idea that rape is less of a crime, and hey, acceptable AND funny.
I can't find a clip of the night but I'm sure one will surface. I'm thinking you may want to bury that one Mr. Cook because if that hits the media, college bookers are going to drop you like a piece of turd. That's karmastic.
